Telemetry and M2M Solutions

Telemetry is the remote measurement or the remote collection of signal /data, which can be physical or environmental. Telemetry is typically used to gather signal /data from remote, unmanned, inaccessible locations, or when data collection would be time-consuming, dangerous or difficult to get for a variety of reasons. In telemetry, specialised devices perform measurements of physical quantities, and store or transmit the resulting signal /data sometimes after some initial processing or conversion.

M2M stands for ‘Machine to Machine’ and describes the automated communication between remote (Telemetry) devices and central management applications. The M2M industry is rapidly growing and brings advantages and improvements such as:

  • Productivity and cost reduction through direct communication between remote devices & central management systems.
  • Performance and cost control through the utilisation of real-time information.
  • Better Asset utilisation.

M2M applications are used in fields such as health care, automotive, security, tracking, emergency, vending machines, public transport, information displays, etc.

NewEra is providing integration of telemetry and M2M solutions. The solutions that we can offer are various, since programming of the telemetry devices and server gateway software is done in house, we can offer a number of application scenarios as required.

We can provide an OEM telemetry device which can be hooked up to a number of different sensors and data acquisition devices. Signals from sensors or data that is acquired can be transmitted through the GSM network by means of SMS messages or GPRS sessions as appropriate. The device, if required can store the acquired data internally for a period of time and then transmit this data at defined intervals or on request.

Apart from the programmable telemetry device we can also provide bespoke M2M solutions by implementing server side gateway software which listens to the telemetry devices and process the incoming messages / GPRS sessions as required. This gateway software can also send commands to the telemetry device as may be required. This device is also fitted with an in built GPS receiver which can be used for asset tracking solutions.

Case Study - We have provided a company having most of its business generated from Vending Machines with a device that is attached internally to the vending machine. When the machine is opened or tilted, a message is sent to a server gateway at head office. At head office, the software logs the event and re-route the message to a pre defined recipient. Messages can be re-route according to the nature of alert. Example – re-route a message that the Vending Machine was opened to one person whilst re-route another message that the Vending Machine was tilted to another person.
